The Engraved Gemstone Signet
By far my favourite pieces to create, each gemstone signet is unique.
Every piece is custom made to meet the purpose it is to be worn, from the size and shape, to the precious metals chosen to ensure durability and longevity.
The central gemstones are sourced both locally and internationally, and even custom cut for my client if necessary to ensure they meet my stringent standards for colour, clarity, cut and lustre.
The rings are precisely engraved on both the face and band, each unique design is hand drawn onto the piece to fit perfectly around the gemstone, and to fit the profile and size of the band.
From consultation, design, sourcing, forging, engraving, setting and finishing, every one of these rings is made by hand, often exceeding a hundred hours of work per piece.
The Commission Process and Additional Information:
To enquire about commissioning one of these custom pieces, please fill out the form below. once I have reviewed the form, I will send you an email with any additional questions I might have for the piece, and a quote for the piece if possible. Once the quote is accepted, I will provide an invoice for a deposit, usually 50% of the total quote, except in cases where the gemstone is exceptionally valuable.
Once a deposit is received, I will source the centre stone, and provide you with a design for the piece to approve. Once the design is approved, your piece will enter the queue of commissioned pieces for me to make, with the balance due upon completion. Due to the complex and time intensive nature of these rings, the lead time on completion is variable, usually around twelve weeks, although for large scale commissions it can take up to six months from receipt of the deposit.
The average size for the centre stone is 0.4 carats in weight, and 4mm-4.5mm in length, the width being variable depending on shape and ratio. I will of course provide the carat weight and dimensions with the quote for the piece.
Dimensions: The top of the signet is usually 12mm from top to bottom, although I can make it larger or smaller if desired. The height will be slightly higher than the depth of the chosen centre stone, with the top plate being 1.4mm in depth, and the band tapering down to 3mm in width at the base of the band, with a minimum thickness of 1.6mm.
In the case of a silver band, I use a special alloy silver and platinum, this premium alloy is superior to sterling silver in durability and longevity, in addition to being less susceptible to tarnishing.
The cost to commission a gemstone signet starts at $5400AUD with a silver band, and $9000AUD in gold and/or platinum, however specific quotes vary immensely depending on the centre stone and the complexity of the project.
